What This Tool Does
This tool converts a ZIP archive into a 7Z archive. The ZIP is fully extracted and every file and folder inside is repackaged into the 7Z container format, which is popular for its strong LZMA and LZMA2 compression. The result is a genuine 7Z file, not a renamed ZIP.
7Z often achieves better compression ratios than standard ZIP for the same contents, so converting can noticeably reduce the size needed to store or transmit a large set of files.
How the Conversion Works
Because ZIP and 7Z are two separate formats, the conversion must unpack the input first and then pack the results again using the 7Z format. This tool does that on the server, reading the ZIP entries, writing them into a fresh 7Z archive, and then reopening the 7Z to confirm every entry is present and readable.
Step by Step
- 1
Upload your ZIP file by dropping it or browsing from your device.
- 2
Click Convert to 7Z.
- 3
Wait for the extraction and repackaging to finish.
- 4
Download your verified 7Z archive.
Compatibility and Limits
- Input: any readable ZIP archive (.zip).
- Output: a standard 7Z archive (.7z) readable by 7-Zip, WinRAR and other tools that support the format.
- Uploads are bounded by the platform safety envelope for size and entry count, so very large collections are handled safely.
Troubleshooting
- A file that is not actually a ZIP will be rejected clearly rather than silently renamed.
- Encrypted ZIP entries cannot be converted without the matching password.
- For enormous archives, keep the page open while the extraction and repackaging run.
