What This Tool Does
This tool scans a ZIP for security-relevant red flags before you open it. It checks entry paths for traversal attempts, flags unusual file types, and reports entries with hidden attributes so you can review risk signals for yourself.
A green result is a helpful data point, not a guarantee. Always apply the same caution you would with any file from an unknown sender.
What the Report Shows
- The overall risk verdict with colored confidence.
- Path entries that try to escape the zip folder.
- Executable-type entries, large entries and unusual paths.
- Checks performed and a plain-English verdict.
Step by Step
- 1
Upload the ZIP.
- 2
Click Check Security.
- 3
Review the risk verdict and flagged entries.
- 4
Decide accordingly before opening the archive.
What Is Not Scanned
The scanner inspects metadata and entry lists. It does not execute code or scan active viruses, so this page completes, not replaces, a normal antivirus scan.
Troubleshooting
- Encrypted entries are checked for names and attributes only.
- Files that cannot be read as ZIPs are rejected.
- A clean report does not replace a cautious approach to unknown files.
