What This Tool Does

This tool tells you whether a ZIP is protected by a password and how many of its entries are encrypted. It reads the archive's flags for each entry and counts the protected ones.

It does not guess passwords and has no recovery capability. If the password is unknown, the honest options are recollection or a reputable recovery product.

What the Report Shows

  • Whether the ZIP is password protected.
  • The number of encrypted entries.
  • Encryption-related notes for the whole archive.

Step by Step

  1. 1

    Upload the ZIP.

  2. 2

    Click Check Password.

  3. 3

Read whether the archive is protected and how many entries are encrypted.

What This Tool Does Not Do

This page deliberately does not crack, enumerate or recover passwords, and it stores no password material. It is a detection and reporting tool only.

Troubleshooting

  • Some archivers encrypt the whole archive; others only selected entries. The count reflects per-entry flags.
  • If you have the password, other tools on this site can repackage or read the contents.
  • Damaged ZIPs may hide encryption state; repair first when that happens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you recover my password?
No. This tool detects protection; recovery is out of scope and dishonest products should be avoided.
How is encryption detected?
Per-entry encryption flags are read from the ZIP directory.
Are all ZIPs checked they same way?
Standard and modern encryption flags are both recognised by the reader.
Is my file at risk here?
No, it is read only for flags and removed after the check.
What can I actually do when it is password locked?
Use the password you have, or ask the sender. As a last resort use a well-known commercial recovery tool.
