What This Tool Does
This tool compares two ZIP files entry by entry. For every path it reports whether the entry appears in both archives with the same content, or whether the content differs, or whether the entry exists in only one of the two files.
Content matches are decided by comparing the actual bytes, not the timestamps or compression details, so a re-zipped archive with identical files still scores as matching.
What the Report Shows
- Number of identical entries in both archives.
- Entries that exist only in the first or only in the second archive.
- Entries present in both but with different bytes.
- Sample lists for each category, kept readable.
Step by Step
- 1
Drop the first ZIP in the left slot.
- 2
Drop the second ZIP in the right slot.
- 3
Click Compare ZIPs.
- 4
Review the match summary and difference lists.
How Comparison Works
Each entry is identified by its path in the archive. Entries at the same path are compared by decompressing both and comparing their bytes. Folder entries are compared by name, and paths present on only one side are listed as one-sided.
Troubleshooting
- Files that are not readable ZIPs are rejected before comparison.
- Encrypted entries cannot be byte-compared without the password.
- Very large archives are compared but the report samples the longest lists.
