What This Tool Does
CAB (cabinet) is a Microsoft archive format used for Windows components, drivers and software installers. This tool opens a CAB file, extracts the files inside, and repackages them as a standard ZIP archive that works on every platform.
Many CAB files are not natively openable on non-Windows devices, so converting them to ZIP makes the contents accessible everywhere without installing any Microsoft tooling.
How It Works
The CAB is opened with the format decoders available on this platform, each compressed stream inside is decoded, and every recovered file is written into a brand-new ZIP. The ZIP is then re-opened to confirm the entries were written correctly.
Step by Step
- 1
Upload the CAB file.
- 2
Click Extract to ZIP.
- 3
Wait for extraction and ZIP creation.
- 4
Download your ZIP.
Compatibility and Notes
- Input: a Microsoft cabinet file (.cab).
- Output: a standard ZIP archive (.zip).
- CAB is a container, so files are decompressed and stored with normal ZIP compression.
Troubleshooting
- Non-CAB uploads are rejected with a clear error.
- Damaged CAB streams stop with an honest error rather than a partial fake archive.
- Extremely large drivers take time to decompress; wait for the download button.
