What This Tool Does
XZ is a modern compression format built on the LZMA2 algorithm, widely used by Linux distributions for packages and by tools that need very good compression. This tool decompresses the .xz stream and repackages the recovered data into a standard ZIP archive.
If the decompressed data is a TAR archive, the TAR is expanded and converted into ZIP entries so the folders survive intact.
How It Works
The .xz stream is inflated using the XZ implementation available on this platform. The result is examined: single-file payloads are stored under their original name, TAR payloads are unpacked entry by entry, and everything is written to a fresh ZIP that is validated again before download.
Step by Step
- 1
Upload the .xz file.
- 2
Click Convert to ZIP.
- 3
Wait for the decompression and ZIP packaging.
- 4
Download your ZIP file.
Compatibility
- Input: an XZ-compressed stream (.xz) or a compressed TAR (.txz).
- Output: a standard ZIP archive (.zip).
- TAR payload folders are preserved in the output.
Troubleshooting
- Data that is not valid XZ is rejected clearly.
- A truncated .xz stream results in an honest failure report.
- Very large files take longer; keep the tab open until the download button appears.
