What This Tool Does
This tool converts a 7Z archive into a TAR archive. Every entry is extracted from the 7Z with a real archive engine and repacked into TAR, which is the right move when a build or deployment pipeline expects a tar file.
Since TAR does not compress, a 7Z that was strongly compressed will come out bigger as TAR. The summary reports the real sizes.
How It Works
The 7Z is decompressed entry by entry and each byte is written into a new TAR archive. The TAR is opened again to confirm it lists the same entries, after which the download link appears.
Step by Step
- 1
Upload the 7Z archive.
- 2
Click Convert to TAR.
- 3
Read the conversion summary.
- 4
Download your TAR.
Compatibility
- Standard 7Z archives are supported, including solid archives.
- The output is a plain TAR accepted by tar everywhere.
- Encrypted 7Z archives are blocked without a password field.
Troubleshooting
- Files that are not 7Z are rejected before any conversion work.
- Expect a larger output because TAR stores without compression.
- For a single download, consider TAR GZ to get compression back after conversion.
